Sulcata Tortoise Care and Information
Rest assured that all sulcata tortoises for sale on our website are always captive bred, and never wild caught. They’re also herbivorous, meaning they eat plants, fruits, and vegetables. Babies will chase and eat the occasional insect. Focus on offering them high fiber (and low protein) diets.
Also known as African spurred tortoises, this fast-growing species will readily breed in captivity once they reach adulthood, which takes several years. Their scientific name is Geochelone sulcata, and they’re of the family Testudinoidea, and the genus Centrochelys.
Native to the Sahara desert, these tortoises prefer drier habitats, and shouldn’t be kept in humid environments. They’re docile pets that never fail to impress onlookers. In fact, whenever someone sees one of our adults, they immediately want to know how they can buy one.
