Chilean Wide Mouthed Toad Care
These baby toads are very hardy captives and will do extremely well in a semi-aquatic or fully aquatic setup with a water depth of 2-inches. They will thrive in water temperatures of 68F to 76F (aka “room temperature”). We keep their water at 74F to 76F all summer, and they grow like weeds. Offer your baby toads nightcrawlers, crickets, and other insects. Make sure there is something the toad can rest against (or hide under) in the water—we use cork bark. They will rarely exit the water entirely. No UVB lighting is necessary.

Chilean Wide Mouthed Toad
Calyptocephalella gayi

We have some captive bred Chilean wide-mouthed toads for sale at unmatched prices. This very rare species is also called the Helmeted water toad, and is the second largest species of frog/toad in the world! They feed upon anything they can fit into their mouths, including insects, rodents, birds, and reptiles. The juveniles we offer are approximately 3-inches snout-to-vent (SVL) length.

Their appearance is reminiscent of Jabba the Hutt, and they do very well in captivity (read our care notes below). The juveniles we offer come straight from The Frog Ranch! When you buy a toad from us, you automatically receive our 100% live arrival guarantee.
